Norwegian Salmon comes in many sizes. A Norwegian Salmon can be 1,5 meters long, and 30 times the weight of this one. This salmon was caught in the river close to www.skirigard.no.
On average, around 145,000 salmon with a mean weight of about 3 kilos (6,6 lb) are caught in Norwegian rivers every year.
Norwegian Salmon is probably the best known product from Norway. Norwegian Salmon is eaten in more than 100 countries world wide, and export of Norwegian Salmon is almost 1/3 of the total fish export from Norway.

Norwegian Salmon is known scientifically as Salmon salar (Atlantic salmon). Norway is the world's largest producer of Atlantic Salmon. Norway farms about 570.000 tons atlantic salmon per year out of a world production of 1.25 billion tons.

The salmon season in Norway normally runs from June the 1st to August the 31st with some variations due to local conditions. So plan your visit to Norway in this periode to get the best fishing experience ever!
A large number of Norwegian Salmon are also caught in bag-nets along the coast and fjords. However, the number of bag-nets is declining year-by-year, enabling more salmon to run the rivers.
The Norwegian rivers are largely of excellent health. Out of Norway’s 450 salmon rivers, less than 5% of the rivers are infected with the Gyrodactylus salaris parasite. The local river associations have introduced rigid procedures to prevent the parasite entering any river, and all anglers are required to disinfect waders and fishing equipment before fishing.
